Teachers Day is round the corner and the class haven't met up for quite some time now. Main question: will everyone be going back to Cathigh this time round? Or, as crazy as it sounds, go find Mrs Chung and Mrs Neo at SCGS. What should the plan be?

And so, a year has passed; 12 months since we have graduated from CatHigh.

For some of us, it had been a difficult transition. From graduating from high school, from being gay to being straight, it's a completely new environment. I'm sure many of us miss the insanity of 4-2 like how Fat Gay misses Jie Jing. But whichever way you look at it, life still goes on.

Whether you're enjoying your time in wherever you are, it's only 1 more year, or 2 for some. And seeing how fast '08 has passed, the rest will pass equally fast as well.

To those who felt time was passing painfully slow, at least you have survived a year of our hectic education system and prepare for whatever it coming up.

Now, my point being: 4-2 will always love you and be there for you.

many would see entering a JC as a step up from secondary school. i would not.

in this kind of environment, everyone is pretentious and so fake that i could throw up what i eat last year. most are smiling AND thinking about the best way to torture you, which, i think, is not nice at all.

in this kind of environment, there is much to do, but little progress. who still remember how to do those obscure chemistry questions? i do not. there isnt time to digest, there is only more heapings of helpings from tutors who dont even care whether you understand or not. nope, most just wanna go through the tutorials and viola, their jobs is accomplished.

in this kind of environment, i dont know how to react. im helpless and i would very much want to cry. but my tears cant flow. im cluessless why too, so dont ask.

Class Chalet

Greetings to the non-facebook users and the loyal ones who still frequent this blog. Hope all has been going well for you in JC. If not, there's always 4-2 to turn to.

Class chalet is scheduled to be on the 10-11 March 2008 at the Singapore Yacht Club Bungalow B. The venue is the same which we had our previous chalet, except we are occupying the building next to it this time round. Check in time is around 2+, while check out is in the next the next day if I'm not wrong.

This information is confirmed unless I heard otherwise. Those who have any queries could leave a tag, or approach weida. The latter is recommended.

Also, we will be having a potluck session. As of now, Clinton and Hao Nam are providing drinks. Plates and utensils will be bought by Waye Shyang. It will be helpful if we can collate the numbers for Waye Shyang. Those who are bringing food please leave a tag or inform weida to avoid excess. I'll try to post a list of who's bring what.

Lastly, please pass this message on to the others as well.

More than Words

This might be a little overdue, but for me I still feel it's a better-late-than-never kind of thing.

Perhaps during the last few days of school I never really said my thanks and appreciation for everyone at 4-2. Again, it's difficult to believe that it has finally ended, with our chalet wrapping things up for this wonderful class.

It's always the class you're in for the final 2 years of school that really matters, and this time it is no different. This class has played a big impact on my life, and it's because of crazy and gay classes like this that makes coming to school actually worth looking forward to. Throw in some lame and insane teachers into the mix and you get the "perfect" class.

For some of us we have known each other since primary school or from our lower sec years, and yet the bond we share with the rest is incredible. I have to say that the class spirit I feel within the class is beyond any of that I have experienced, and being in such a closely-knitted class is just...beyond words. Of course, we might have our own clique, but try not to get yourself hated too much and you're probably accepted. That's one thing I love about this class.

Now to come and think of it, our class is rather intimidating to say that least, with most of the CCA leaders in this class. But beyond that, each of us have our own potential. We aren't the best double science class in the level for nothing.

I believe no one will argue that our class committee is kind of screwed, what's with everyone wanting to "sabo" one another, but really they done a good job. We got Mervin and Marcus as chairpersons who have coped rather well in leading the class. Then we have the "best IT reps in the level" as proclaimed by Miss Thian in the form of Shi Rui, Waye Shang and Benjamin. And in Lennart and Basil we have to thank for their effort in arranging most, if not all, of our activities, in school or outside. These are just a few of course, and I apologise if I left you out. Then again, all of us have contributed one way or another, whether in terms of welfare or logistics. We all have played a part in helping out the class. And really, being part of the class itself, that is as good as it will ever get, because you'll never know how much your presence can mean to another and the impact you have on another classmate's life. So in a way, we have all contributed to the atmosphere of the class.

But all in all, the feelings, the emotions, it's just impossible to put those down in words. We can't describe it, but we know it's there. I guess that is enough.

I don't know how many of you still check on this blog, or how many will read this, but still, thank you. Thank you for the fun, the joy, the laughter, the experiences. But more importantly, thanks for the friendship.

And hopefully, just hopefully, this blog will be used as a channel for us to get back together again in the future.

On page 10 under the point "Night of the Long Knives", it is stated that numerous SS leaders were shot to death. On the Night of the Long Knives, it was actually the SS (Secret Police) who suppressed the SA (Stormtroopers). Anyway, Ernst Rohm is the leader of the SA, not the SS.

First of, today's lunch could not have been made possible if not for Lennart and Basil who are in charge of the overall event. The following only concern the History students.

As promised, Mr Krishnan has passed his pile of notes to me. I have identified the notes we do not have and this is where the problem sets in. I need to know who is in favour of photocopying the notes, which means paying more money again and I know most of you are not quite happy with the current rate we are paying money. Another option we have is to have some kind soul to print for all of us from his house. The best option at the moment is for me to type them out and send it to all of you.

The third option seems the best so far, but I want to know how many of you are in favour of it or other options. If any of you have any better suggestion that could benefit all of us please voice them out.

And I do apologise for taking so long with the photos. I will try to upload them somewhere as soon as possible.

Regarding the photos taken today, I'm looking for a public domain which I can upload the photos to. Uploading 100 over photos through blogger isn't exactly the easiest job in the world and I'm hoping someone could ease my pain of doing so. If no solution can be found I'll just have to upload it over here, though it might take some time.

Anyway, is anybody interested in a class gift for all our teachers? After all, they are our teachers and we have to show our appreciation someway or another right? Besides, don't we love most of our teachers? If there are disputes over the use of class funds we could always compile our own individual gifts and give them as a whole to the teachers. Is anybody with me on this?

Then there's one last thing which I would like to bring up: Graduation Night. Many of us are undecided over whether to go or not, and some people's decision are dependent on the decision of others as well. I have to agree that the price isn't cheap, but this might be one of the few times left we could get together as a class. Furthermore, the plan of having a chalet could be held after our Grad. Night.

I know this might not be exactly the best time to be thinking about such stuffs, seeing as to how little days we have to our O Levels and we are all busy studying. But I believe that we should at least plan something first, especially about Grad. Night. At least it might give some of us something to look forward to after our O's.

Mr Lee also mention something about our own class photoshoot on Monday. Please try not to get yourself absent on that day. This might be one of our few chances left to take a photo with our dearest teachers as a whole class.

I believe all of you have been studying hard over the long holidays. Here are just some interesting trivia for amusement's sake.

Today is actually International Youth Day, so technically speaking there should be some form of celebration. After all, youths play an important role in the society.

August 13 is International Lefthanders Day. First observed in 1976, it is meant to promote awareness of the inconveniences facing left-handers in a predominantly right-handed world. Lefties in our class include me, Marcus, Weida, Phelan, Qian Sheng, Whye Kit and Glen.

I promise you all of the above are true and none of it is make up. Now kill me for wasting your precious time.

Other than that, I have nothing else. Let us hope for all the best for tomorrow's release of the Chinese O level results and good luck for our upcoming English Oral Examinations.

3 years ago the students of 4-2 got lots of homework for the weekend.

One of which was the SCGS physics paper which was given by a particular ~~unreasonable~~ responsible teacher who wanted to push them very hard for the upcoming O Level Examinations. Failure to complete it by Monday will result in slaughtering or other forms of torturing. Then there were the Social Studies essays as well. It was advisable to complete all the essays which they have "signed up" for to avoid being "purged" by Monday again. Those who need clarification could contact Shaun. For the History (elective) students they had a test on Monday on Stalin's Russia. Basically it's everything left for Russia. Finally there was the November 1997 English Comprehension practice.

Just a little reminder: Chung Cheng High Physics paper is by the 13 August 2007.

Alright, this is getting kind of ridiculous. Someone should put a stop to this right now. Failure to do so will result in a tear in the time-space continuum which will bring about the end of the world, and eventually the universe as we know it. We should all start changing back to the actual date to bring back peace, security and stability to this blog.

Classical Music random thoughts about this fading wave?

So, why this topic? I’m not so sure myself, probably feeling just a little morbid contemplating the end of my music career due to the lack of practice time and the brickloads of assignments and tutorials.
Well, so they say that classical music is at its last days, slowly fading away, but wasn’t this what they said like about a hundred years ago or so? but it really irritates me when people start talking about the need to make classical music more "Accessible" for it to regain its popularity. Things like half-jazz half-classical concerts, concerts entirely of movie music, multimedia presentations etc...and I often end up wondering if maybe that isn't part of the problem.
Isn't it possible that, in their earnest efforts to reach out to a wider audience, producers and managers and music directors have not only inadvertantly alienated classical music's historically loyal followers, but also diminished its appeal to "newcomers"?
One of the most obvious symbols (though by no means the only one) I see of this push for "accessibility" is the ubiquitous "World's Most Beautiful Adagios" or "Romantic Classical Piano Favorites" CDs that are always gumming up the classical section at Borders. They're supposed to be appealing to a wide audience, to "bring classical music to the masses" and all. But in that quest for accessibility, the producers of such albums have instead achieved insipidity and bland sameness. The inevitable result is a society full of people who think classical music is something quiet and soothing to have playing in the background during a fancy reception or romantic dinner. "Oh, well, Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik is just lovely," goes the familiar refrain, "But honestly, for the most part I find classical music just a bit...boring." Well, no wonder.
As I see it, the push for accessibility, however well-intentioned it may be, is fundamentally flawed. Great classical art music is not supposed to be relaxing, soothing, a bubble bath for the senses (although sometimes Debussy has that effect on me anyway), or even accessible upon first hearing.
Classical music, in short, is not a form of passive entertainment. It requires thought, concentration, intellect and at least a rudimentary literacy in the language of music to be able to fully appreciate the greatness of a Brahms symphony, Haydn string quartet, Beethoven piano sonata etc. That is why I think this whole “accessibility” thing in which producers just make records after records of classical music is all pointless; to truly experience classical music you have to be there at a concert, live, physically present in order to truly experience the magic.
The criticism so often leveled at such an attitude is that it is "elitist." To which I say...well, YES! Classical art music IS elitist by nature and always has been. I can already see many of you Gentle Readers instinctively recoiling at such an archaic, aristocratic and anti-democratic notion, but to my way of thinking "elitist" is no insult. Rather, it is a philosophy of life that values excellence and genius (rather than conformity to some lowest common denominator in the name of some twisted version of egalitarianism.)
The difference between this sort of elitism and the oppressively aristocratic system many people think of when they hear talk of "Elites" is that this rank of elites is not closed to anyone. Anybody with a brain can become musically literate, it just takes some time and effort and energy. The Accessible Classical Music Movement attempts to bypass that unavoidable need and offer up a version of classical music that requires no effort on the part of the listener. But since that goes against the very NATURE of classical art music, the result is only a pale, watered-down simulacrum.
Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Bartok and all the other Great Masters are not pushovers. They demand thought, intellect, contemplation and concentration. Fans of instant gratification will yell that it's unfair. But that's simply how it is. And for those who are willing to take on the challenge of great music...the rewards are unfathomably transcendant.
So, to sum it all up, classical music is not just what you think it is, it is more than that, a science, a philosophy, an expression, an art, it is something unexplainable and a truly rushing experience for both audience and performers

argh all the GLs in school... ... so dam irritating(not those in class...LOL, refering to ppl outside 4-2)... today M.T.Z.Y dropped a plastic water bottle in the primary school canteen (while we were eating/telling fairytales) the water bottle flew to the table that two sec twos were sitting, and hit one of their legs, then he give a DAM GL look to our table, then his friend also started GLing and Staring...ARGH

And to all those people who only know how to Socialise with their friends and being a "photo journalist" of themselves and who continue to waste their time every other day: GET A DAMN LIFE MAN!!
